EEA EPILEPSY INFORMATION BOOKS
In 2001, the Edmonton Epilepsy Association received a grant from the Edmonton Community Lottery Board to develop a new series of epilepsy educational booklets. Following two years of research, writing, editing, graphic design work and printing, we were proud to introduce these exceptional booklets in December 2003. The booklet series was officially launched as part of March 2004 Epilepsy Awareness Month activities.
Since then, the booklets have been periodically updated and reprinted. For the past several years, UCB Canada Inc. has provided the EEA with unrestricted grants that made it possible to print thousands of each booklet for free distribution to Epilepsy Associations, Hospital Epilepsy Clinics, and Neurologists’ Offices across Canada, up to 2020.
Since 2020 these booklets are fully funded by the EEA through its own Casino fundraising efforts. As of 2024, shipping within Canada of more than 11 books will be charged to each order. Refer to the link for the online form to learn details.
While the initial translation into French was completed by the Épilepsie Montréal Métropolitain, in 2022 the EEA completed a major revision, in collaboration with Épilepsie section de Québec, under the leadership of their executive director, Nicole Bélanger. Additional internal revisions of the final French titles (2022) were made possible thanks to EEA directors and French-speaking volunteers.
We wish to acknowledge the individual translation contribution to our French 2022 updates of the Edmonton Epilepsy Association Information Booklets, by Kaïlane Cook and that of Louise Perron, under the expert guidance of the executive Director of the Épilepsie section de Québec, Nicole Bélanger. An additional team of volunteers at the EEA spent countless hours reviewing all versions and ensuring we could produce the best revision possible. A true collaboration effort by all.
The EEA prints all paper copies of the books in Edmonton. From our office we distribute them to Hospital Clinics, Epilepsy Associations, and Neurologists’ Offices in Francophone Canada.
If you are far from an Epilepsy Association or Clinic, you can download and print our electronic book from the links below. In many parts of the world there is little or no epilepsy information available. Our website is averaging over 5,000 hits a month just for the booklets, including numerous hits from around the world. To date, our booklets have been downloaded from over 200 countries around the world!
In 2020 the English titles of this booklet series were edited and updated. The French versions were updated in 2022.
