QUILT PROJECT

GOAL: create  up to 50 quilts for identified individuals, youth and adults alike, which have been diagnosed with severe cases of epilepsy or are about to face brain surgery to treat epilepsy.  The EEA will connect with clinics and hospitals to promote this initiative. Individuals would be invited to connect with EEA and share their story with us. We will offer a unique quilt for each of them, with a dedicated label to embrace them, share with them our support and hopes for the future, and offer to them all the programs and initiatives of our association. Each quilt will represent a story, a wish for a better future and the starting point for empowering the lives of those who live with epilepsy (The EEA vision).
COST: $750/quilt (includes promotion and administration costs). Click here to learn more.

FAMILY-CAMP RETREAT

GOAL: The EEA is planning to offer a family-camp retreat for EEA member families, with young children with epilepsy, to share experiences, access healthcare professional resources and a variety of tools to cope with life with epilepsy, in a friendly environment, surrounded by peers who are walking similar life experiences and encouraged by success stories.  Depending on the developments of the pandemic, the first retreat may occur in an online setting, for which the EEA will be facilitating access to, including access to hardware and WIFI connectivity. The hope is to offer this retreat on a regular basis and in live settings, in a camp-site in northern Alberta.  COST: between $15,000 and $50,000 as basis to run the camp (includes insurance costs, site bookings, food, entertainment and access to a wide range of presenters)

HALLOWEEN PURPLE HAUNTED HOUSE

GOAL: This project, which was launched in October 2020, sees the EEA taking the festivities of Halloween to increase awareness about epilepsy and educate the public at large about the disorder, its impact on people’s lives, and how many famous people who have epilepsy, have gone to achieve great successes, and share their stories. The 2020 and 2021 editions gained the EEA attention from media (click here to read and watch a TV segment).
COST: $3,500 – The EEA plans to increase the impact of this initiatives for 2021 and reach out to a wider audience, using promotional channels and creating an online interactive scavenger hunt with special prizes.

SPECIAL NETWORKING EVENTS

GOAL: One of the key services the EEA is proud to provide is offering networking opportunities to its members, who are often feeling the heavy burden of isolation e disconnection.  On a regular basis the EEA organizes social events, of different sizes and aligned with different activities, recreational and educational in nature, and create safe spaces and facilitates participation to these events to all members who show interest and express a need.
COST: These vary on the nature of the event. Events in 2020 and 2021 were all held virtually and will continue to be so for the foreseeable future in 2022. Costs incurred for virtual events include providing access for members who have limited virtual resources.
