EAENA NEW LOGO AND VISUAL IDENTITY

Our new Logo and visual identity explained

A new day has began! For 66 years we held the name of the Edmonton Epilepsy Association – EEA and we are now the Epilepsy Association of Edmonton and Northern Alberta – EAENA.

For more than 66 years, our charity has been guided by a simple but powerful vision: Empowering People Impacted by Epilepsy.

For many years, our tagline asked a simple question: “Ask Me Why!” These three words were designed to spark conversations. Whether someone was wearing purple, volunteering at one of our events, or supporting our programs, the tagline invited others to ask why. It created opportunities to raise awareness, share personal stories, and talk openly about epilepsy whenever the opportunity arose.

Our previous logo reflected this same purpose. The flame symbolized the electrical activity that occurs in the brain during a seizure, while its bold purple colour aligned with the internationally recognized colour of epilepsy awareness. Together, the logo and tagline became recognizable symbols of advocacy, education, and community support.

As our organization has continued to grow, so too has the region we serve.

At our Annual General Meeting in late February 2026, our members voted to adopt a new organizational name that more accurately reflects our expanding reach. While Edmonton remains an important hub for delivering programs and services, our work extends far beyond the city. Today, we proudly support individuals and families affected by epilepsy across a vast region of Alberta, stretching from just north of Red Deer to communities throughout Northern Alberta.

This change represents more than a new name—it reflects our ongoing commitment to ensuring that anyone impacted by epilepsy, regardless of where they live in our service region, has access to education, support, advocacy, and a welcoming community. While our identity is evolving, our mission remains unchanged: to empower people impacted by epilepsy and build a future where no one faces epilepsy alone.

Our new visual identity was born from a community call for creativity.

As part of our transition to The Epilepsy Association of Edmonton and Northern Alberta, we invited members of our community to submit ideas for a new logo that would represent our organization and the future of our work.

We were honoured to receive several thoughtful and creative submissions. While each reflected a unique perspective, one design immediately stood out—not only for its visual appeal but also for the meaningful story behind it. The designer carefully explained how each element of the logo represented our organization, our values, and the people we serve, while honouring the legacy we have built over more than six decades.

What makes this new identity even more special is that it was created by one of our own members. It is a logo designed by someone who understands our mission, believes in our vision, and is part of the community we proudly serve.

We invite you to discover the inspiration behind our new logo in the designer’s own words and learn how this new visual identity reflects both our rich history and the exciting future that lies ahead.
