Community Kitchen and Meal Kits Program

The EEA has been running a Community Kitchen Program since the early two thousands. The program was envisioned as a learning and social gathering activity for EEA members, living with epilepsy.

Registered members would meet up, learn to cook a meal together, share the meal at the end of the cooking session, and discuss ingredients as well as ways to get access to specific foods at local stores, considering budget and sharing tips. This has been a very popular program for the association and a closed-knit group of its members.

Then came COVID-19!

Since spring 2020, the program was modified using digital delivery along with meal kits that are delivered to the doorsteps of participating members. Once every two months, an EEA staff or volunteer shares and prepares, through pictures and videos, a special recipe, and members register for a free meal kit, where the ingredients in the recipe along with some added goodies, are packaged safely in a box and delivered to the doorstep of participants. We then invite participants to share comments and pictures about the recipe and how it turned out.

The meal kit program from June to December 2020 was sponsored by the Edmonton Community Foundation. Read more about this article about the grant.
