MENTAL HEALTH FOR EPILEPSY 2023-2024 PROGRAM

The EEA is pleased to announce an exciting new project for EEA members who are interested in mental health counselling, to help them deal with their epilepsy diagnosis. The purpose of these sessions will be to help our members deal with their epilepsy and any mental health conditions they may have associated with their condition. These sessions will be one on one with a trained mental health professional and can be conducted in-person, by phone or on-line.

We are able to offer this program as we have received funding for a grant request to provide psychotherapy sessions with qualified counsellors, from the Community Initiatives Program (CIP), from the provincial government.

Initially members will be able to receive five sessions with the possibility for another five sessions if it is believed necessary by the counsellor. The maximum number of sessions is ten. This pilot project will begin in June 2023 and continue to January 2024.

WHO CAN BENEFIT?
This program is offered to adults (over 18 years of age) who are finding it challenging to cope with the stress, anxiety, uncertainty and challenges that come along with an epilepsy diagnosis. The mental health sessions will focus specifically on problems arising from living with epilepsy.  The sessions are offered to provide support, especially for people who may have difficulties reaching out for mental health assistance. We have funding for up to 80 individuals, and the sessions are offered once an applicant qualifies from completing a questionnaire to ensure the sessions are suitable for the best candidates.

HOW DO I APPLY?
All applicants will have to fill in an application provided by the EEA. Once the participant has been considered eligible for this program by the EEA, their information will be sent to the counselling service we have engaged. The member will then be given the contact information for the counselling service, and it will be the member’s responsibility to contact the service and arrange their appointments. The Counselling Service Provider will decide which counsellor would best suit the needs of the EEA member.
