MARCH 2026 EPILEPSY AWARENESS MONTH

Discover how we’re coming together this March to inform, connect, and inspire our community!

March is Epilepsy Awareness Month in Canada, and the Edmonton Epilepsy Association (EEA) is proud to lead a month-long series of initiatives dedicated to education, advocacy, and connection. Throughout March, we will be hosting meaningful events, providing accessible awareness toolkits, and engaging in community activities designed to increase understanding of epilepsy and reduce stigma.

This month is also a time to celebrate the resilience, strength, and diverse lived experiences of more than 30,000 people living with epilepsy in Northern Alberta. Together with individuals, families, caregivers, and community partners, we are shining a light on the realities of epilepsy while empowering our community with knowledge, compassion, and support.

Join us as we raise awareness, build understanding, and stand in solidarity with those affected by epilepsy—this March and beyond. CLICK HERE TO ACCESS THE WALKATHON PAGE!

PRESS RELEASE

Every year, we release a press statement to media outlets and community contacts—and now it’s your turn! Use the two templates in this section to craft your own press release and connect directly with communities across Northern Alberta.

Need a hand tweaking it for your organization or your local agency supporting our cause? Reach out—we’re here to help. And don’t forget to track your impact: are local media and community centers sharing your message? The more it spreads, the greater the benefit. Words matter—let’s make them count!

March is Epilepsy Awareness Month, and the Epilepsy Edmonton Association (EEA) is proud to recognize this important time by increasing awareness, education, and community support across our region. Throughout the month, we offer enhanced epilepsy education programs, awareness campaigns, and community events to help improve understanding of epilepsy and life with seizures.

StepUp4Epilepsy Community Awareness Event

The StepUp4Epilepsy event is the highlight of Epilepsy Awareness Month and our largest community awareness initiative of the year. This engaging, family-friendly event aims to connect with at least 300 participants throughout the day, offering opportunities to learn about epilepsy, seizure recognition, seizure first aid, and advocacy.

By hosting StepUp4Epilepsy at West Edmonton Mall, we will reach more than 10,000 mall visitors on a typical Saturday, significantly expanding public awareness and education about epilepsy.

Through a multi-pronged approach—including educational resources, interactive activities, and participation opportunities—we strive to reach people of all ages and backgrounds. BRIDGE BANNERS CAMPAIGN

Each year, the Edmonton Epilepsy Association (EEA) partners with the City of Edmonton to display large March is Epilepsy Awareness Month banners on four high-traffic city bridges. These highly visible locations are chosen to raise epilepsy awareness in Edmonton and encourage thousands of drivers to notice and remember our message of hope and understanding.

In 2026, the EEA will once again install these epilepsy awareness banners in select locations across the city. With the help of dedicated EEA volunteers, the banners are safely set up and taken down, ensuring our epilepsy awareness campaign reaches as many people as possible. Every banner and every volunteer effort helps strengthen public awareness and education about epilepsy.

If you see one of our Epilepsy Awareness Month banners, we invite you—when safe—to take a photo and share it with us or on social media. Your participation helps extend the reach of epilepsy awareness throughout Edmonton and beyond.
